Because of the reefs and narrow ocean passages from the east, the preferred approaches to the Abacos are from the west and the U.S. mainland. Distances across the infamous Gulf Stream range from approximately 50 miles from West Palm Beach, 70 miles from Ft. Landfall and Bahamian clearance can be made at West End, Grand Bahama Island or directly in the Abacos after an eighty-mile crossing over Little Bahama Bank. Flying the Q flag, it is permissible to sail and anchor in uninhabited cays on the Bank prior to reaching the Abacos for clearance. An investor purchased the Walker’s Cay a couple of years ago, and despite hurricanes and the pandemic, the marina there opened this year. There’s a small airstrip, but no accommodations, restaurants or public facilities. At the end of your charter the boat returns back to Marsh Harbour where you will spend your last night at Boat Harbour Marina so you can relax and enjoy the facilities at our base, the Great Abaco Beach Resort. We can easily accommodate an early check-out for you the following morning, simply provide us with your flight schedule and we will plan accordingly. Aside from our day trips we have a 4 night minimum for our charters.
We will check you in and stow your gear and then you can obtain your provisions; Maxwell’s is the grocery store and Jimmy’s Liquor for liquor.
